Chop an onion into very small pieces and put them in a small container, (something like
a little pill bottle) tip the end of your hook with a small piece of onion after you hook your
minnow thru both the lower and upper lip. You will be surprised how this helps you out
attracting the crappie to your bait. Not to get off the subject if you are using jigs put them
in the small container with the onions and shake it up, then use your jigs.
Cut a onion into
slices and get a
asprin bottle for
the diced onion
and jigs
dice the onion into very
small pieces
fill asprin bottle half
way full with chopped
onion . Then place
crappie jigs in
shake container with
jigs in it for
approximately 15
seconds
The first thing you will need is the proper tackle. I
recomend you purchase a fly rod and and a ultra
light real . Make sure the flyrod is at least 8ft in
length. With a trigger spin zebo ultralight real .
Here's a example combo that basspro shop sells. If
you want to get serious about crappie fishing with
artificials jigs you will need a good crappie pole
and a flyrod combo is a good start. You can also
purchase these outfits at any major sporting goods
or department store.
Crappie Fishing Basics
The crappie is a excellent fish to taget for the beginner angler. It doesn't take long to get
hooked on fishing for these fish. You can catch these little critters in any season. If you
get into a big crappie school you will be amazed at how many fish you can catch in a very
short period of time. You donot need a boat or any exspensive fishing tackle to start
fishing for crappie. You can get started fishing for under 200$.
There are two types of crappie the "black crappie" and the "white crappie" Please visit
my crappie habitat page by clicking here after reading this article to get all the details of
the crappies habitat.
After you purchase your flyrod combo , remove the
fly reel and replace it with the spin cast reel.
Remove the exsisting line for the spin cast reel and
replace it with a quality line like cajun line. Make
sure when you purchase 6lb test. My preference is
cajun red because it is almost invisable under
water.
Feed your line through the eyelets in your rod fist.
You will want to use a arbor knot to tie your line to
the inside of your reel. click here for a excellent
animated example of how to tie this knot.

abor knot drawn tight wind in you
line very slowly about 20 revolutions
holding the line in your fingers to
make sure the line winds tight and
evenly. This will eliminate the
chance a rats nest tangle at a later
date.
Now it's time for your tackle selection. You will need to purchase some crappie bobbers like the on the picture ans an assortment of crappie jigs.

When you start your search for crappie jigs here's a few pointers to keep in mind. There
are several different types of crappie jigs you want to purchase. And yes size does mater
when making the selection. I recommend you purchase only 1/64oz and 1/32oz size jigs.
you can buy jigs seperate or you can buy jigs with plastics. When you are fist starting I
recommend you purchase jigs already assembled as shown. look for curly tails, that have
the jig heads already painted. Jigs with a eye painted on them are a good selection.
The Next thing you will want to do is slide the line through the crappie bobber the round
end first. Slide the boober up the line about 13 inches. Next Slide one of your jigs up
the line about just below the bobber, then tie it in place. Now tie another jig on the end of
the line. You can vary this set up. If the distance shown doesn't work remove one jig and
adust the bobber down. now you are all set to go fishing. Now heres a little trick that
works every time for me.
Crappie schools will be located in structure. start your fishing around docks and brush
piles. I also recommend you read my articles on crappie fishing click here for your
